Better Late Than Never: Junior Varsity + Mighty Moguls video

Those of you around here in the late ninties and early zero-zeroes probably remember Houston's terrificly goofy retro garage-pop band Junior Varsity. Peek-A-Boo Records released the band's first single in 1996 and eventually a full length in 2000, after which JV toured Japan twice.

On both visits overseas, JV was lucky enough to play with and be blown away by Tokyo's wild Mighty Moguls. JV later reciprocated by bringing Thee Moguls to Texas, and the two bands had some time in between shows to duck into Jaime Sralla's Static House in Houston and quickly record a stellar version of the obscure cut "Gitchy Gitchy Goo" by The Galaxies (from Fort Worth, TX).

A good friend of the band, Nick "Worst Album Covers In The World" DiFonzo, filmed the recording session as well as the show that went down later that night and made this great little video documenting Junior Varsity's final performance ever. Enjoy...

Also found on YouTube... Junior Varsity "performing" at the Athen's PopFest in 1998. This clip is 70% talk, 30% rock, but captures JV's typical beer-fueled heckling of the audience and other bands.
