Black Lipstick
"The Four Kingdoms of Black Lipstick" CD EP
Peek-A-Boo Records
BOO 1002 CD
In their own lyrics, Black Lipstick is, "20 years behind but 50 years ahead." Weaned on a strict diet of the Velvet Underground, Modern Lovers, Television and the Stooges, the ladies & gents of Black Lipstick cocked their heads and coolly delivered this "makeshift junk-jam boogie for greased hips and painted lips," as one writer penned it.
The five songs on this EP are batter-fried in fuzz, 'verb and 'tude and ripe with clever, cocksure lyrics like, "This shit will stand / This shit will rule / As a monument to the works of Women and Men / Will occupy chart positions 1-10 / Be rediscovered in rooms and record bins / By lonely children whose lives are changing," from "Our Gilded Thrones." Judging by the songs on this loose, inspired EP, the band's predictions just might turn out to be true.
This was Black Lipstick's first release, and the only recordings featuring original bassist Kelly Martinez.
Release Date: October 9, 2001
